U7 Timbits

The U7 (Timbits) program is focused on development for children turning four, five and six by December 31 of the current year. Following Hockey Canada’s belief that the focus should be on fun and skill development, while also allowing players to experience fitness, fair play and cooperation, SBMHA uses the Long-Term Development Model to offer children a positive introduction to the sport of hockey.

The season begins with a number of initiation skates, where players have the chance to develop their skating and hockey skills before they are placed on teams for practices and games. There are many U7 teams registered in SBMHA, allowing teams to share ice for practice and games all in our own catchment area. Games are played in a cross-ice format and players are grouped according to skill so players with similar skill sets play against each other; however, score is not kept for this age of hockey. Each team will skate one on-ice coach with the children to guide and aid everyone in their hockey experience.

Teams have the option of entering different tournaments throughout the season, including a required SBMHA tournament to end the season (SBMHA March Meltdown Tournament).

Because of the large number of players and teams that SBMHA has each year, there are a number of volunteer roles that need to be filled. If you would like to help coach or assist at our initiation skates, please contact us.
